Maureen Ambrose, PT, DPT, OCS, COMT

Orthopaedics Sports Therapy Dry Needling Spinal Therapy

Dr. Ambrose completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She is a board-certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) and Dr. Ambrose has an interest in treating orthopedic conditions and sports injuries of athletes of all ages.

Dr. Ambrose completed her undergraduate studies at University of Maryland, College Park where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Neurobiology and Physiology. While at Maryland, she played and captained the Women's Club Lacrosse team.

Dr. Ambrose finished the dry needling certification program through the Janet Travell, MD Seminar Series. This rigorous training in dry needling was instructed by internationally renowned physical therapist Jan Dommerholt and others, and concluded with a certification as a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist (CMTPT) through Myopain Seminars. Dr. Ambrose is also certified as an orthopedic manual physical therapist (COMT) through the prestigious Ola Grimsby Institute and she is a certified orthopedic manipulative physical therapist (OMPT) through a program instructed by internationally renowned manual physical therapist Jim Meadows.

Dr. Ambrose enjoys leading an active lifestyle, cooking, and traveling.

John A. Baur, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS, FAAOMPT

Orthopaedics Sports Therapy Fellowship Trained Dry Needling Spinal Therapy

Dr. Baur earned his Doctorate and Master's degrees in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Medicine, with a focus on neuromuscular injury of the spine and orthopedic sports injury. In addition, he completed his Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology, with honors, from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Dr. Baur is a board-certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). He completed an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) accredited fellowship training program in orthopaedic manual physical therapy and Dr. Baur is a fellow (FAAOMPT) of the prestigious AAOMPT.

Dr. Baur completed the Janet Travell, MD Seminar Series dry needling training program. This rigorous training in dry needling was instructed by internationally renowned physical therapist Jan Dommerholt and others, and concluded with a certification as a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist (CMTPT) through Myopain Seminars. He is a certified Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapist (OMPT), a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and a certified Dive Medical Technician through the International Board of Undersea Medicine.

Dr. Baur is a former adjunct faculty member in orthopaedics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Medicine, Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitative Science. He is currently a Clinical Coordinator of Clinical Education (CCCE) and Clinical Instructor (CI) for several physical therapy programs across the United States. Dr. Baur is a member of both the Orthopaedic Section and Sports Section of the APTA, and he has completed the numerous continuing educational courses instructed by many internationally renowned medical specialists.

Dr. Baur works at the Roland Park and Rosedale locations, where he specializes in outpatient orthopaedic and manual therapy spine care. For nearly fourteen years he oversaw the physical therapy care for the 400+ varsity athletes at Loyola University, Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Baur has an interest in treating afflictions of the spine and orthopedic.

Roy Bechtel, PT, PhD
Physical Therapist

Dr. Bechtel has taught orthopedic Physical Therapy at the University of Maryland School of Medicine for over 30 years. He retired in 2011 as Course Director for the orthopedic Physical Therapy curriculum and is now an adjunct Assistant Professor, part time.

Dr. Bechtel has worked at New York University Medical Center, Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center, and most recently the University of Maryland Medical Center, from which he retired in 2015 as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics.

Dr. Bechtel has taught numerous continuing education courses here and abroad, has published several scientific articles and a book. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT).

He has earned the following degrees:

  • BA - Urban Studies
  • BS - Physical Therapy
  • MA - Physical Therapy
  • PhD - Biomechanics

Dr. Bechtel will treat patients at the Columbia/Clarskville location. He is out-of-network for all insurances and will not see patients with Medicare Insurance coverage.

Nick Bertsch, PT, DPT
Physical Therapist

Orthopaedics Sports Therapy Residency Trained Spinal Therapy

Dr. Nicholas Bertsch completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania. While attending Arcadia, Dr. Bertsch served as a teaching assistant for first year doctorate students and conducted research on neuromuscular changes in elderly individuals with hip fractures. Dr. Bertsch also spent a week abroad in Jamaica providing pro bono therapy services to impoverished patients.

Dr. Bertsch received his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Penn State University and is an avid Penn State football fan. While attending PSU, Dr. Bertsch helped chair a committee for Penn State's THON, a year-round fundraising effort that benefits pediatric cancer.

Dr. Bertsch is a residency trained Orthopedic Physical Therapist who completed his residency training with renowned instructors from the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). He is working toward his specialist certification in orthopedics (OCS). Dr. Bertsch is an active member of the APTA orthopedics section.

When he is not working Dr. Bertsch enjoys spending time outdoors with friends and family and playing golf, basketball and volleyball.

Joanne Forman, PTA

Joanne received her Associate of Applied Science degree in the Physical Therapy Assistant program from Baltimore City Community College, Baltimore, Maryland. She has 25 years of experience working in outpatient physical therapy. Joanne is nationally certified in Therapeutic Massage & Body Work from the Holistic Massage Training Institute and has been a licensed massage therapist.

Joanne specializes in the treatments of orthopedic injuries and she uses many different soft tissue mobilization techniques in her daily treatments. She believes strongly in the use of hands-on to treatment. Joanne works hard to study the latest treatment approaches and she has a vast experience in the application of therapeutic modalities, joint range of motion techniques and strengthening exercises.

Dr. Moore completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore (UMES), Department of Physical Therapy. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). He continues to participate in research involving light therapy and low back with UMES.

Dr. Moore is residency trained in orthopaedic physical therapy and he is a board-certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). Dr. Moore also completed the Janet Travell, MD Seminar Series dry needling training program. This rigorous training in dry needling was instructed by internationally renowned physical therapist Jan Dommerholt and others, and concluded with a certification as a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist (CMTPT) through Myopain Seminars.

Dr. Moore the current Residency Director of PTF Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency program and he is a member American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Orthopaedic section. He lives in Federal Hill and enjoys participating in trivia and recreational sports leagues.

Dr. Alex Tan is a graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Doctor of Physical Therapy program. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy.

Dr. Tan is a residency trained orthopedic physical therapist and board-certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). Sari Weissbard, PT, DPT

Orthopaedics Sports Therapy Dry Needling Spinal Therapy

Dr. Weissbard completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Touro College in Manhattan, and her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Delaware. She has worked clinically as an orthopedic physical therapist alongside several holistic disciplines, including practitioners of Feldenkrais, mind-body therapy, yoga, Pilates, and acupuncture.

Dr. Weissbard's specific training includes teachings from the Postural Restoration Institute for the lower extremity, certifications in SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment) and OMPT (Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapist) through a manual physical therapy certification program instructed by Jim Meadows.

Dr. Weissbard also completed the Janet Travell, MD Seminar Series dry needling training program. This rigorous training in dry needling was instructed by internationally renowned physical therapist Jan Dommerholt and others, and concluded with a certification as a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist (CMTPT) through Myopain Seminars.

It is important to Dr. Weissbard to treat the patient, not the diagnosis. She incorporates manual therapy, breathing, corrective exercises, and movement pattern re-education. Dr. Weissbard's goal for every patient is independence and to give patients a greater awareness of certain aspects of their bodies, learn how to improve and maintain the optimal function of those individual bodies, and decrease the risk of future pain and dysfunction.

Dr. Weissbard ran track and cross country throughout high school and college, and has continued running daily since then. She also enjoys other physical challenges such as rock climbing, bicycling, and Ultimate Frisbee.

Lillian Wynn, PT, DPT

Orthopaedics Sports Therapy Spinal Therapy Performance Center Fellowship Trained

Dr. Lillian Wynn holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She is especially interested in orthopedic physical therapy and treatment of shoulder injuries. Originally from North Carolina, Dr. Wynn was a varsity swimmer while completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester in western New York. This experience encouraged Dr. Wynn to pursue her studies in physical therapy.

Dr. Wynn is a residency trained Orthopedic Physical Therapist who completed her residency training with renowned instructors from the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). Dr. Wynn enjoys working with patients one-on-one to develop a specialized course of treatment and exercise program for each individual. She believes regular exercise, particularly learning injury prevention techniques, is an important and often overlooked part of injury management. Dr. Wynn has had many great experiences working with athletes of all skill levels, and plans to continue this work at Physical Therapy First.

When she's not treating patients, Dr. Wynn likes to go hiking with her two dogs and watch a good Ravens game. Dr. Wynn also competes in triathlons, mostly so that she can indulge in her homemade baked goods on the weekends.

Justin Yerkes, PT, DPT
Physical Therapist

Dr. Yerkes completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Marymount University in Arlington, VA. While at MU, Dr. Yerkes was a Biology lab instructor for undergraduate students. He also had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica and deliver care to the local population and assist with the opening of an orthopedic physical therapy clinic.

Dr. Yerkes completed his undergraduate studies at McDaniel College, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education. He also played four years on the McDaniel football team. After graduation, he served as a physical education and weight lifting teacher at a high school outside of Baltimore, Maryland. Currently, he is an active member of the APTA orthopedic section and is enrolled in an orthopaedic residency program working toward his specialist certification in orthopedics (OCS).

Dr. Yerkes continues to stay active by weightlifting, spending time outdoors, and supporting the hometown Ravens and Orioles teams. In his free time he enjoys being on the water, fishing and cooking.

Sarah Voelkel, PT, DPT

Dr. Voelkel holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Widener University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Maryland, College Park. After going through rehab of a soccer injury in high school, Sarah knew that she always wanted to pursue a degree in physical therapy.

Dr. Voelkel is a residency trained Orthopedic Physical Therapist who completed her residency training with renowned instructors from the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). Dr. Voelkel enjoys working with a variety of orthopedic patients of all age ranges. She believes that patient education, treating the patient as whole, and initiating and maintaining a healthy patient/therapist relationship is key to good quality of care.

While not working, Sarah enjoys cooking, traveling, hiking, running, and playing with her new puppy. Sarah lives with her Fiancé Aaron and dog Melo in Hampden.

Scott Vocke, PT, DPT

Dr. Vocke completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Medicine and his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Dr. Vocke spent the first 6 years of his career working Johns Hopkins University Hospital. During his time at the burn center he has been involved in multiple research projects, facilitated the Johns Hopkins New Life Burn Society, and completed the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Credentialed Clinical Instructor program. Dr. Vocke has taught continuing education courses related to burn rehabilitation and he has been a Capstone Adviser for the Rehab Essentials Distant Learning Transitional Masters to Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program.

Dr. Vocke's has an interest in manual therapy techniques and orthopedic physical therapy. He is currently preparing to become a board-certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). He enjoys being outdoors hiking and fishing and staying active by running, biking, and swimming. Dr. Vocke currently lives in Catonsville with his wife and their dog Izzy.

Dr. Gubka received her doctor of physical therapy degree from the University of Minnesota. She completed an Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency and became a board-certified specialist in both Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (OCS) and Sports Physical Therapy (SCS). Samantha completed an Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship in Sports Rehabilitation. She currently clinical faculty for MVP's Orthopaedic Residency, clinical faculty for MVP's Orthopaedic Manual Therapy Fellowship in Sports Rehabilitation, and adjunct faculty at University of Puget Sound. Samantha also serves on numerous committees through APTA that includes: ABPTRFE's Credentialing Committee, ABPTRFE's Program Services Committee and ABPTS's Specialization Academy of Content Experts - Orthopaedic.

Leah Flamm, PT, DPT
Physical Therapist

Dr. Flamm completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Medicine. She has worked in the Burn Intensive Care Unit at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and MedStar NRH Rehabilitation Network in Virginia. Dr. Flamm has experience in outpatient orthopedics, pelvic floor physical therapy, burns, wounds, and school-based and home-based physical therapy.

In addition to her clinical experience, Dr. Flamm has a background as a dance instructor. Her athletic and teaching backgrounds have provided her with a valuable breadth of exercises and teaching styles and have taught her how to effectively communicate with patients in order to adjust their movement patterns. As a dancer, Dr. Flamm understands the challenge of recovering from an injury, as well as the importance of working to prevent future injuries. She is guided by compassion for her patients and believes that with physical therapy, anyone can improve their health and well-being.

Lauren Hoskins
Director of Clinical Services

Lauren is responsible for maintaining relations with our referring physicians and other healthcare providers at local hospitals. These ongoing communications between healthcare providers are critical to ensuring quality care and optimal outcomes. Lauren's duties also include recruiting experienced and skilled physical therapists, general staffing, and managing promotional efforts.

Lauren received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication from Towson University where she played Varsity Lacrosse and Field Hockey. She has a diverse work experience which includes employment as an Account Executive, Athletic Director, and Real Estate Sales Associate.

Beth Glessner
Office Manager

Beth handles the accounting, payroll, human resources, accounts payable, and therapist credentialing for PTF, to name just a few of her many responsibilities. She joined the company as a seasoned financial professional with over 8 years of experience managing the accounting and budgeting departments of both local and international companies.

Beth is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She and her husband have two children and she enjoys spending her free time with them.

Susan Little
Insurance Specialist
Office Manager-Mt. Vernon/Account Manager

Susan has 20 years of experience in the medical field and specializes in medical insurance and accounts receivable. Her professionalism, leadership, and charm are a great asset to our office. Susan is a certified medical billing specialist, Certified Nursing Assistant and is fully trained with HIPPA privacy policies. Susan knows the importance of patient confidentiality and she is always ready to perform other duties when called upon. Susan enjoys interacting with patients, answering insurance questions and she is always seen with a smile on her face.

Away from the office, Susan is a proud mother of three and she enjoys spending time with her family.

Jessica Ogrodowicz

Jessica has been a member of PTF’s office team for over 5 years. She is responsible for gathering and processing the information needed to complete medical insurance claims. Jessica is often working on the telephone, taking inbound customer-service calls and making outbound calls to patients and health care providers.

In addition to processing routine claims, Jessica investigates pending claims and resolve discrepancies. She is familiar with navigating call centers of health maintenance organizations (HMOs), insurance companies, physician's offices, and billing departments.

Jessica has a working knowledge of claims-payment laws, medical terminology and she is familiar with diagnostic coding systems and coding procedures.
